Welcome
In August 2001, a lifelong dream came true for Darryl Holyk when he recorded a ten song album
of original songs in Nashville, Tennessee.
Born and raised in Minnedosa, Manitoba, Darryl showcased his love for music at an early age, humming along and dancing to the songs on the radio before he could walk or talk.
A self-taught guitar player and songwriter, Darryl did not begin focussing on a possible music career until after he graduated from high school in 1997. While he had performed as part of the school choir in elementary school, Darryl had never sang a solo in public until January 1999. Darryl's first public solo performance took place in Music City USA in none other than the legendary World Famous Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, a popular Nashville honky-tonk that was a gathering place for stars such as Pasty Cline, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristoferson in the 1960s.
While at Tootsie's Darryl met a fellow Canadian, Brenda Best who was struggling to get recognized by the music industry. The two singers/songwriters became friends and through Brenda, Darryl was put in contact with Panda Productions in Hendersonville, TN, a suburb of Nashville. In August 2001, Darryl walked through the doors of Panda Productions and entered his first recording session. The result was Darryl's debut album, appropriately titled, Here I Am, which was released in January 2002.
Since that time, Darryl has returned to Nashville on numerous occassions and has todate recorded three full albums or mostly original material. In addition to Here I Am, Darryl released Just One More Time in 2004, followed by D's Honkytonk Hangout in 2005.
Darryl also released a special six-song tribute album in 2005 titled Cowboy in Heaven, which was recorded in memory of a young man from Plumas Manitoba who was killed in a car accident. The CD was sold as a fundraiser for Big Brothers and Sisters in Brandon Manitoba.
In addition to recording albums and performing at various functions in and around his hometown, Darryl is also employed as Editor/Reporter for The Minnedosa Tribune, the oldest weekly newspaper in the Canadian West, dating back to 1883.
In April 2007, Darryl returned to Nashville to record his latest CD. The album, titled Whiskey, Women and Friends, features ten new songs penned by Darryl and will be released to the public in the summer of 2007. Later in the year, Darryl will release a Christmas collection which will feature popular country Christmas classics.
Darryl hopes to continue to record his music in Nashville in the years ahead and while great fame and fortune would be great, he is happy with just being able to share his love of music with others.
